A broken spring, a snapped cable, an opener that will not lift, or a door off its track. One call puts you through to an insured local company that works London — and most of these are repairs, not a new door.

  • Whether you heard a bang before it stopped working
  • Whether the door feels heavy when you pull the release cord

What we can help with

Call today Garage Door Spring Repair The most common garage door failure there is, and almost always a repair rather than a new door. A broken spring is why the door suddenly weighs eighty kilos. What to look for → Can wait Garage Door Opener Repair Motor, gear, logic board, safety sensors. Often a repair, and often something simpler than the opener — a misaligned sensor costs nothing to fix. What to look for → Call today Cable Repair and Replacement The lift cables either side of the door. When one snaps or jumps its drum the door goes crooked, and a crooked door jams in the tracks. What to look for → Call today Off-Track Door Repair A door that has come out of its tracks, usually after being reversed into or after a roller or cable let go. It does not go back on by pushing it. What to look for → This week New Garage Door Installation A new door where the old one is past repair, or where the insulation value actually matters — which in a London winter, on an attached garage, it does. What to look for → Call today Emergency Garage Door Repair A door stuck open overnight, a car shut in, or a door that has come down and will not go back up. The cases where waiting until Monday is not an option. What to look for → This week Garage Door Opener Installation A new opener where the old one is beyond a gear kit. Belt drives are quieter than chain, which matters when there is a bedroom over the garage. What to look for → Can wait Roller and Track Repair Worn rollers and misaligned track. This is what a noisy door usually is, and it is one of the cheapest jobs on the list. What to look for → This week Panel Replacement and Dent Repair One damaged section replaced rather than the whole door. Possible more often than people are told, and far cheaper when it is. What to look for → This week Garage Door Tune-Up and Maintenance An hour of adjustment and lubrication that prevents most of the emergency calls on this list. The cheapest thing on the site and the least sold. What to look for → This week Remote and Keypad Programming New remotes, exterior keypads, and clearing codes when a car or a remote has changed hands. Small jobs, and worth doing properly after a house move. What to look for → This week Weather Seal Replacement The rubber along the bottom and the stops down the sides. In a London winter a perished bottom seal is snow, meltwater and ice inside the garage. What to look for → Can wait Commercial Garage Door Roll-up shutters, sectional overhead doors and loading dock doors. Heavier hardware, higher cycle counts, and downtime that costs money by the hour. Why this is usually a repair

A garage door is the heaviest moving thing in most houses, and almost none of its weight is carried by the opener. It is carried by the springs. That is why a broken spring makes a door that lifted with one hand yesterday feel like it weighs eighty kilos today, and why the opener grinding is a symptom rather than the fault.

Three parts account for most calls: a spring, a cable, or the opener. All three are repairs in the low hundreds. The industry's reflex is to quote a new door, because a new door is a far larger sale, and plenty of people pay for one when a spring would have done. The single most useful question you can ask is what the repair would cost alongside the replacement.

The one thing worth saying twice is the spring itself. A torsion spring holds enough stored energy to kill somebody, and every year people are seriously hurt trying to wind one with a screwdriver. It is the only job across any of these trades where the honest advice is simply do not. Everything else on this list a competent homeowner could at least inspect.

And in London specifically, winter finds the marginal parts. A spring near the end of its cycle life, a dry hinge, a stiff roller and a perished bottom seal will all hold together through October and fail together in January. An autumn tune-up is the cheapest thing on this site and it prevents most of the emergency calls on it.

London specifically

Winter is what decides this trade in London. The city sits in the snowbelt southeast of Lake Huron and takes lake-effect snow that misses places an hour away, so a spring near the end of its cycle life, a dry hinge and a perished bottom seal all hold together through October and fail together in January. On an attached garage the door is also the largest uninsulated surface in the house.

Ontario does not licence garage door companies, so the checks worth making are liability insurance and a WSIB clearance certificate. Where a new opener is being wired rather than plugged in, that part is electrical work and belongs with an ECRA/ESA-licensed contractor.

How it works

Three steps, and you decide at the end of them.

  1. 1

You call and describe the problem

Tell us what you have noticed and where — the room, the smell, the noise, how long it has been going on. Give us your postal code and we will match you to a licensed company covering your area. There is no form to fill in.

  2. 2

A local company takes it from there

They discuss the problem with you directly, arrange a time to inspect, and agree the work and the price with you before anything starts. That conversation is between you and them.

  3. 3

You decide whether to go ahead

You are under no obligation. If the quote or the approach is not what you wanted, you are free to say no and call someone else.

Common questions

Which areas of London do you cover?

All of it. The quickest way to find out about your own town is to call and give us your postal code — if the nearest company is an hour out we will say so rather than waste your afternoon.

How soon can someone come out?

Same day for a door stuck open, a car shut in, or a door off its track. Springs and cables are usually same or next day because the parts are stocked. A new door is a week or two out because it has to be ordered to the opening.

Are your partners insured?

Ontario does not licence this trade at provincial level, so the documents worth asking for are liability insurance and a WSIB clearance certificate. Any legitimate partner will show you both without being chased.

What does it cost?

Nothing, at any point. The work is carried out by our partner company, and everything about it — the price, the schedule and the guarantee — is agreed directly between you and them.
